On the 7th to 10th November, 2022, The Northeast India AV Archive organised a workshop for the staff of IPR Department, Government of Sikkim. The Workshop on Cataloguing and Digitising began with a session on the foundation of Archival studies, the philosophy of and need for archives especially in this region of the country, which was delivered by filmmaker and activist Tarun Bhartiya. The attendees were instructed about the role that archives play in organisations and government departments.
The workshop was a purely hands-on teaching and learning process, and the staff of The Northeast India AV Archive conducted thorough sessions on cleaning, digitising, cataloguing and storing photographs, negatives, mini-DVs, VHS tapes, films and Hi8. A session on photo editing and conversion was also conducted, along with an instruction on the about, the philosophy of and need for archives, specially in the Northeastern region of the country. Towards the end of the workshop, the idea of setting up an archival space at IPR Department, Sikkim was already in discussion.
