The Williamson Sangma Meghalaya State Museum is a Meghalaya-focused memory institution, situated right in the heart of Shillong city, presenting and celebrating Meghalaya’s unique and multitudinous identity, history and culture. Each section of this building has been filled with narrative, story and knowledge, for the present and future generations to learn, understand, celebrate and practice.
The Northeast India AV Archive was tasked with the curation of the new building of the State Museum in Shillong as an expansion of the original museum. With the experience of having curated past Museums, the Archive undertook the year long project of undertaking research, designing and acquiring artifacts for the installation of various displays.

The Museum was finally inaugurated on the 25th of June 2025 by the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma. The event was visited by many government officials and dignitaries.
Today, the Museum sees many visitors from across the world and has since received good feedback as a pillar of culture and heritage of the people of Meghalaya.

The Museum features various seven main exhibits and additional interactive spaces . The atrium houses large installations featuring symbols of Meghalaya's culture. There are also smaller displays placed throughout the Museum referencing music and heritage.

The main exhibits of the Museum include the Geology, Textiles, Cartography, Philately, 150 Years of Shillong, Hill State Movement, Conservation and an Art Gallery.
All these exhibits are intended to showcase the rich, varied culture and history that Meghalaya has to offer to its visitors.
