Shad Nongkrem Meghalaya

Shad Nongkrem is one of the most significant and intricate festivals observed by the Khasis. Every November, a spectacular five-day event takes place at Smit in Shillong. In this festival, young men and women dance while maintaining time to the Tangmuri's playing and the changing beats of the drums while wearing beautifully coloured silk garments and turbans. This day is designated as a time to thank the all-powerful goddess "Ka Blei Synshar" for the abundant harvest and the well-being of the populace.
