Just WOW! India's Grandest Tribal Celebration | Hornbill Festival Nagaland
Synopsis
We ticked off another big one from our bucket list: The Hornbill Festival The Festival of all Nagaland Festivals showcase to the world the beautiful and talented tribes of Nagaland. We were just amazed by the people and how this festival turned out to be. Not only did we tick this off from our bucket list, this was hands down THE best festival we have ever been to, and take my word for it, you should too. The festival started with the a Big Bang opening ceremony and inauguration by the vice president of India and an artist (Imnainla Jamir) playing electric guitar rendition of the national anthem, from that till the end we were just mind-blown. One of the main intent of the festival is for the tribes to showcase their artistic talents. Their ornaments were quite unique and undoubtedly some of the best handicrafts we have seen in this country so far. And almost every young Naga folk we met was a talented musician or dancer! It’s really great to see how both the people and government want to preserve their history and yet embrace all modernizations. There isn’t any other country in this world that has this kinda diversity. Within the same state, the language, the culture, food the cuisine changes every 100 kilometres. There are about 16 tribes in Nagaland and around 11 participated in this festival this year. Tribes : Angami, Ao, Chakhesang, Chang, Dimasa Kachari, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Kuki, Lotha, Phom, Pochury, Rengma, Sangtam, Sumi, Tikhir, Yimkhiung, Zeliang.
