A short video on the formation of the state of Mizoram. The Mizo Hills became the Lushai Hills district within Assam at the time of Independence. In 1954, it was renamed the Mizo Hills District of Assam. The growing discontent due to the Mautam famine (1959-61), the movement began for independence under the leadership of Laldenga. After years of struggle with the Indian Government, Mizoram finally attained statehood on February 20th, 1987.
