The indie8 Documentary Film Festival

Updated: Aug 2

The indie8 Documentary Film Festival was organised as an attempt to provide a platform for budding artists from Northeast India to showcase their films, to tell the stories of people who cannot, and to make their own opinions as artists heard too. The festival was also an attempt on the end of The Northeast India AV Archive to reiterate the importance of film in the documentation of culture, and its role in the unification of the spectrum of communities living in the region.

It was held on the 8th to 10th March, 2023. Documentary films were selected as the genre in focus for the festival because of the long and venerable role that they have played in modern society, from their role in education to that in the maintenance of history. The film festival was motivated by the inference that was gathered after the indie8 Film Festival 2013, that potential talents in the filmmaking realm are constantly seeking platforms to showcase their art, opportunities to broaden their perspective on creative avenues and a channel to illustrate their opinions. The immediate interaction of budding artists with renowned filmmakers at the festival helped them understand the multi-faceted and multilingual aspects of documentary filmmaking, it helped them realise the number of ways in which a story could be told, and even the challenges that came with making films.
